Republican U.S. Rep. Scott DesJarlais is praising a GOP budget package that would slash government spending by $6 trillion over the next decade, rewrite the federal tax code and restructure health care programs for the elderly and the poor. The Washington practice of kicking the can down the road stops now, said DesJarlais, a Jasper physician who won his first term this past fall. The budget shows that we will make the tough decisions to ensure that our nations future is fiscally sustainable and that we will not leave our children and grandchildren with a crushing mountain of debt.
