A Republican-backed motion to add a balanced budget amendment to the U.S. Constitution was defeated in a House vote Friday, falling well short of the two-thirds majority it needed to pass. "After casting 859 votes in the United States House of Representatives, I can honestly say that the failure of this bill hurt the most," DesJarlais said. "I've never walked off the House floor with such a heavy heart. Although I am deeply disappointed that today's legislation fell short of the two-thirds majority needed for passage, I will continue to fight for a balanced budget amendment to our constitution. It's the right thing to do."
