REP. SCOTT DESJARLAIS ISSUES STATEMENT ON NON-BINDING WAR POWERS RESOLUTION
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Scott DesJarlais, M.D., a member of the House Armed Services Committee, released the following statement after voting against a Democrat-led resolution that could prevent the President from protecting American troops and civilians against Iranian aggression:
“Today’s non-binding resolution, which will never become law, was another symbolic gesture from the Resistance. Unfortunately, it could be construed as a gesture of support for the Iranian regime which, if it did become law, would prevent the President from acting quickly to protect Americans and our allies, as he did this week, decisively. Gen. Soleimani was a battlefield commander responsible for the deaths of hundreds of U.S. troops, and a legitimate military target, undoubtedly planning more attacks like the recent one on our embassy. There must never be another Benghazi. The President has made clear we will protect our diplomats. However, considering Soleimani’s long record of terrorism across the globe, and Iran’s constant belligerence, our response so far has been measured, unlike today’s incoherent resolution.”
