On Tuesday, May 31, 2011 the House of Representatives is expected to vote on H.R. 1954, a bill to raise federal government’s legal debt limit by $2.4 trillion without making a single spending cut. This vote comes as a response to the demands from the Obama Administration and 110+ House Democratsto quickly consider a “clean” debt limit bill. Representative Scott DesJarlais (R-TN-04) will be voting to reject this blank check debt limit increase.

“As I travel throughout Tennessee’s Fourth Congressional District, the thing that I hear most frequently from my constituents is that they want Washington to stop spending money that our nation doesn’t have,” said Representative DesJarlais. “President Obama and Congressional Democrats need to come to the realization that in order for our economy to grow and create jobs, government must learn to live within its fiscal means. Saddling our children and grandchildren with a mountain of debt to pay for reckless spending is an irresponsible fiscal policy and one that I will continue to oppose.  I voted against this bill today because my constituents want Washington to get serious about addressing our country’s debt crisis.”
