On May 1, 2011, at the request of Governor Bill Haslam, President Obama issued a major disaster declaration for the state of Tennessee, triggering the release of Federal funds to help individuals and communities recover from the severe storms, tornadoes, straight-line winds and associated flooding which occurred on April 25-28, 2011.

On May 5, 2011, this major disaster declaration was amended and now includes Bledsoe County

Residents of Bledsoe County that have been affected by the recent storms and tornadoes may apply for Individual Assistance (IA) from the Federal Emergency Management Service (FEMA). Individual Assistance can include temporary housing assistance for eligible applicants, such as rental assistance and repair assistance.

“I’m incredibly pleased that the federal government recognizes the full extent of the damage that Bledsoe County sustained as a result of these severe storms and will be helping residents rebuild their lives by making sure they receive desperately needed assistance and emergency funding,” said Congressman Scott DesJarlais. “Staff members in all three of my district offices, as well as my office in Washington, D.C., are available to assist Fourth District residents in registering for Individual Assistance with FEMA.
