CLEVELAND, TN – Congressman Scott DesJarlais’ week-long tour of jobs and infrastructure projects in Tennessee’s Fourth District culminated today at the dedication of the Mayor Tom Rowland Interchange.
Named for Cleveland, Tennessee’s longest-serving mayor, the new interchange, completed in the last few days, delivers access to a sprawling industrial park, which Bradley County planners expect to create thousands of direct and indirect jobs. The area is already home to Volkswagen and Wacker Chemical.
"The most important resource we have is our people," said Rep. DesJarlais (TN-04). "It's my job to remove obstacles to their ingenuity and advance Tennesseans' success every chance I get. This project took vision and the hard work of the region’s best engineers and contractors."
Rep. Chuck Fleischmann (TN-03) joined him to dedicate the interchange, the latest improvement along Interstate 75 between Chattanooga and Cleveland, where high-tech manufacturers are moving to take advantage of the skilled workforce and low-tax, low-regulation business environment, also apparent farther west.

Local leaders dedicate new Cleveland interchange
In Spring Hill, Rep. DesJarlais visited GM’s assembly plant on Wednesday. The auto manufacturer recently announced a $27 million investment at the location, a portion of the $2.2 billion the company has invested there since 2010, contributing to more than 5,000 jobs in Maury County.
As a new member of the House Armed Services Committee, Rep. DesJarlais also toured the Oak Ridge National Laboratory this week. The nuclear facility is part of an Aerospace and Defense Technology Corridor spanning Middle Tennessee from Kentucky to Alabama. It includes Arnold Air Force Base, Fort Campbell and Redstone Arsenal.
"I was thrilled to witness the amazing, important work Tennesseans do every day at Oak Ridge, developing and protecting some of our most valuable defense assets," said the Congressman, a member of the Subcommittees on Readiness, as well as Sea Power and Projection Forces.
In the current Congress, he has voted to improve troops’ pay, training and equipment, and is working to upgrade security at facilities such as Oak Ridge. He has voted to eliminate billions of dollars of Obama Administration regulations to spur jobs and economic growth.
