U.S. Representative Scott DesJarlais (TN-04) issued the following statement upon the release of President Obama’s $3.8 trillion fiscal year 2013 budget, which projects a fourth straight year of $1 trillion deficits.

“I was truly hoping that the president would present a credible plan that puts America’s future before party politics. Instead, he chose to embrace the status quo and double down on his failed policies of the past.

“While this budget may appease portions of his political base, it fundamentally ignores the problems that our nation currently faces. I find it incredibly irresponsible for the president to suggest that he can just continue with this reckless government spending binge that is ruining our economy. Our nation needs real leadership from the White House – not a reelection effort.

“I am more than willing to sit down with the president and work with him in making the difficult budgetary decisions needed to get our nation back on the right economic track. More budgeting gimmicks, tax increases and government stimulus will not give businesses in my district the confidence to start creating badly needed jobs.

“While President Obama may refuse to acknowledge the reality of our fiscal crisis, House Republicans will put forth solutions. We are in the process of introducing a responsible, honest budget that will end the record deficits, create an environment that he
