112th United States Congress Takes Office

Representative Scott DesJarlais (TN-04) was sworn in as a Member of the 112th Congress on January 5th, 2011 by House Speaker John Boehner. Speaker Boehner conducted the individual ceremonial swearing-in for Rep. DesJarlais and his family following the official oath of office on the floor of the House of Representatives
“I am deeply honored by this opportunity to represent the people of Tennessee’s 4th Congressional District in Congress and will remain committed to my promise of returning fiscal discipline and accountability to Washington, reducing the size of government and finding ways to create jobs," said Congressman DesJarlais. “Most importantly, I’ll never forget that the people of Tennessee chose to send a local doctor to Washington, D.C. because they wanted someone who would represent their hometown interests and never lose sight of the fact that Members of Congress are there to serve the people, not themselves.I look forward to working tirelessly for the people of Tennessee’s 4th Congressional District and representing them with the honor and integrity that they deserve.”
After being sworn in, Representative DesJarlais voted for the new Republican Rules Packagefor the 112th Congress, an important first step in restoring transparency and openness in Congress.
Representative DesJarlais was selected by the new Republican Leadership to serve on the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, Committee on Agricultureand Committee on Education and Workforce.
