Tennessee's Fourth Congressional District Chosen to Host House Education and the Workforce Committee Field Hearing
April 13, 2011
U.S. Representative Scott DesJarlais (R-TN-04) is proud to announce that the House Committee on Education and the Workforce will hold an upcoming field hearing on education and job creation in Tennessee’s Fourth Congressional District. The field hearing will take place on Thursday, April 21st at Columbia State Community College in Columbia, Tennessee.
“I’m extremely pleased that our district has the opportunity to hold this important hearing,” said Representative Scott DesJarlais. “This hearing represents an ongoing effort to empower my constituents by providing them with an opportunity to voice their opinions and views directly to Congress. During these difficult economic times, we must ensure that we are fully preparing our students to enter the workforce with the necessary tools to successfully compete in the global economy. I believe that individuals from Tennessee’s Fourth Congressional District can provide a unique perspective for my colleagues and I to consider as we tackle the educational challenges facing our nation. I thank Chairman Kline for the opportunity to hold this hearing.”
“Rep. DesJarlais is committed to bringing commonsense and accountability to Washington, and he knows that starts with listening to the folks in his district,” said House Committee on Education and the Workforce Chairman John Kline (R-MN-02). “I look forward to joining Scott and the people of Columbia to learn about the challenges – and the opportunities – they have found in their schools and workplaces. The insight we gain will help policymakers better understand how federal programs and initiatives affect the day-to-day lives of the American people.”
The field hearing, entitled “Reviving our Economy: The Role of Higher Education in Job Growth and Development,” will take place at 10:00 a.m. (CST) in the Waymon L. Hickman Building at Columbia State Community College, 1665 Hampshire Pike, Columbia, Tennessee. More information about the field hearing is available at www.edworkforce.house.gov/hearings.
