Representative Scott DesJarlais (TN04) issued the following statement regarding today’s announcement that United States military officially declared an end to its mission in Iraq:

“With our mission in Iraq coming to a conclusion, we should all pause to honor the brave men and women in uniform who so courageously put their lives on the line fighting for our nation in places like Fallujah, Baghdad and Tikrit. Let us also remember to give thanks to their families and vow to never forget those who paid the ultimate sacrifice in defense of freedom.

“As our efforts in Iraq close, we must continue to focus on the ongoing war in Afghanistan. It is critical that we ensure our troops on the ground have the necessary resources they need to accomplish their objectives and win this war.

“Finally, on this day let us remember those who fought during the first Gulf War over 20 years ago. We have not forgotten the sacrifices they made.”
