Washington, D.C. – There is more to celebrate in October than just Halloween. This October is National Book Month. “As a father, I know that reading is essential to a child’s success and growth. That is why I am encouraging every teacher to further immerse their students in a new journey by falling into a good book”.

All too often, the barriers faced by children with difficulty reading outweigh their desire to read. Without proper guidance, these educational roadblocks may never be overcome. Developing a love for reading is one of the greatest gifts a teacher can give to a student. This critical skill is one we need to impart to establish the cornerstone for every child’s future.

On the road to this vital endeavor, Rep. DesJarlais is working with the Library of Congress Surplus Book Program to send books to schools in the Fourth Congressional District of Tennessee throughout the month of October.

If your school is interested in receiving books please contact Rep. DesJarlais’ Washington, D.C. Office at 202-225-6831.
