WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Scott DesJarlais, M.D., continuing his support for domestic energy production, voted for multiple bills this week to increase American energy independence and national security, in addition to jobs and economic growth.

    The legislation would lower fuel prices for industry and consumers, already enjoying lower prices, due to rising domestic production, a Republican priority. The bills (H.R. 2910 and H.R. 2883) would streamline federal permitting for interstate natural gas pipelines, as well as for international energy projects between the United States, Mexico and Canada, major trading partners.

    President Trump declared this week “Made in America Week.” Rep. DesJarlais praised the initiative.  “Congress is working with the President to put America First,” said the Congressman. “A strong U.S. energy sector isn’t just an economic necessity, it gives our country a tremendous diplomatic edge. We gain leverage over countries like China and Russia, and grow closer to our allies.

    “We should take all necessary steps to make American energy a safe and innovative industry, and I’m proud to vote for measures that accomplish these important goals.”

    In addition to voting to streamline permitting, Rep. DesJarlais voted for bills to better protect the nation’s energy system from cyberattack and other damage and to develop hydropower, primarily in the Western U.S.
