On Tuesday, October 4, 2011, Representative Scott DesJarlais (TN-04) released the following statement after voting against H.R.2608, Continuing Appropriations Act, 2012, which would fund the federal government until November 18th, 2011:

“Today marks 888 days since the Democrat-controlled Senate has passed a budget – one of its fundamental legislative responsibilities. As a result, we have had to run the government on these stop-gap measures that continue that add economic uncertainty and prevent the private sector from creating jobs.

“The House did its job and passed the Path to Prosperity, a commonsense budget that will decrease both spending and the size of government so that we can finally get our nation’s fiscal house in order. I was proud to vote in favor of this legislation.

“I stand very firm on my belief that until the Senate can pass their own budget, they need to adopt ours. Unfortunately, this continuing resolution would fund the government through November 18, 2011 at an annual level of $24 billion above the House-passed Ryan budget.

“We must not capitulate in our mission to get our nation’s reckless spending under control. By not sticking to the spending parameters put forth in the Path to Prosperity, we run the risk of sending the message to job creators that Washington is still not willing to get serious in tackling its deficits and debt.”
