Rep. DesJarlais Votes against President Obama’s Iran Deal
September 11, 2015
Congressman Scott DesJarlais, M.D. (TN-04) released the following statement after voting NO on H.R. 3461, a measure to approve the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, signed at Vienna on July 14, 2015, relating to the nuclear program of Iran:
“Despite significant bipartisan opposition from both chambers of Congress as well as a vast majority of the American public, President Obama has chosen to move forward with his misguided proposal. The so-called Iran Deal substantially furthers Iran’s ability to achieve their dangerous nuclear ambitions. This puts both our national security and the security of our Middle Eastern allies in great jeopardy. We must not forget that Iran remains the world’s leading sponsor of terrorism and has consistently threatened to wipe Israel off the map.
“Today, the House has done its job in a bipartisan fashion by rejecting this proposal. Now the Senate must act. I hope that Senate Democrats will stand with the American people by striking down the administration’s dangerous gamble. The only acceptable option is for Iran to completely eliminate its nuclear program.”
