The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee has announced that the Committee will convene for a hearing, “Benghazi: Exposing Failure and Recognizing Courage,” on Wednesday, May 8 at 11:30 AM in 2154 Rayburn House Office Building.

“President Obama’s budget is late by more than two months. Unfortunately, his plan was not worth the wait. The tax increases, budgetary gimmicks and stimulus-style spending contained in the administration’s proposal would certainly grow the size of government, but would stifle innovation and entrepreneurship.
“I was deeply saddened to hear the news former British Prime Minister Baroness Margaret Thatcher has passed away. Lady Thatcher was truly an inspirational leader who shaped today’s world by bringing conservative principles to Western Europe and helping to abolish Communism in Russia. She was a staunch defender of capitalism and believed that smaller government is better government.
“Expanding Medicaid based on a promise the federal government will pick up the tab is short-sighted. Washington’s unsustainable deficit spending means we will likely see a situation where the funds devoted to paying for the Medicaid expansion dry up, forcing states to foot the bill.
“For the third year in a row, House Republicans have put forth and passed a responsible, common sense budget. Our plan balances the budget in 10 years, without raising taxes on hardworking Tennesseans. It jump-starts our struggling economy by creating jobs and empowering small businesses.
“Our budget will achieve balance by making common sense spending cuts and reforms and by repealing President Obama’s onerous health care law. Most importantly, our budget keeps the promises we made to our seniors by modernizing Medicare so that it remains sustainable for current retirees, while ensuring future generations will also benefit from this important program.
