Congressman DesJarlais Calls for the Resignation of Attorney General Eric Holder

“Whether it is Fast and Furious or this most recent scandal involving the Justice Department, the attorney general has shown he is either a complicit partner in these nefarious acts or an incompetent leader who has lost control of his agency. Either way, the American people deserve better and therefore Attorney General Eric Holder must resign.

“One would think that after Congress held the attorney general in contempt for refusing to cooperate during the Fast and Furious investigation he would work to make his agency more open, ethical and transparent. Unfortunately, he has chosen to do the exact opposite.

“I know that President Obama is often unwilling to hold his political allies accountable for their actions, but there is simply no way he can look the American people in the eye and tell them that Eric Holder is fit to continue to lead the Justice Department.

“We already know that the White House has little regard for the Second Amendment; now we have seen they share the same sentiments when it comes to the First. Despite what the administration may choose to believe, they are not above the Constitution and the promise it affords of a free press.”
Oversight Committee Announces Witnesses for Wednesday Benghazi Hearing

“I want to thank these individuals for agreeing to come before our committee to testify about what actually occurred before, during and after the Benghazi terrorist attacks,” said Representative DesJarlais. “I hope their appearance will inspire others who have direct knowledge about what really happened in Benghazi but are not willing to testify for fear of retaliation at the hands of their employers to come forth and publicly share their stories. We have already seen the numerous inconsistencies in the White House’s version of events surrounding this attack and I suspect this hearing will further bring to light attempts made by the Obama administration to distort the facts.”

Congressman DesJarlais is available for Interviews before and after the hearing.

Witnesses:

Mr. Mark Thompson

Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary for Counterterrorism

US Department of State

Mr. Gregory Hicks

Foreign Service Officer and former Deputy Chief of Mission/Chargé d’Affairs in Libya

US Department of State

Mr. Eric Nordstrom

Diplomatic Security Officer and former Regional Security Officer in Libya

US Department of State

In October 2012, the Oversight Committee held the first hearing on the Benghazi attacks, which exposed denials of security requests and forced the Administration to acknowledge that the attacks were not sparked by a protest of a YouTube video, contrary to claims made by Obama Administration officials.

*** NOTE: Press seating will be reserved, but limited. Please arrive early (hearing room will open to press at 10:30 AM) to guarantee a seat. An overflow area will be available. ***

DesJarlais to Participate in House Oversight Committee Hearing on Benghazi

The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee has announced that the Committee will convene for a hearing, “Benghazi: Exposing Failure and Recognizing Courage,” on Wednesday, May 8 at 11:30 AM in 2154 Rayburn House Office Building.

“The Obama Administration has yet to offer a clear and credible explanation of the events that occurred surrounding the Benghazi terrorist attacks,” said Representative DesJarlais. “The information put out by the administration has been dictated by politics rather than the responsibility to inform the American people of the truth.”

“This hearing will expose new facts and details that the Obama Administration has tried to suppress and cover up. The House Oversight Committee, under the leadership of Chairman Issa, has already brought to light several inaccuracies in the administration’s version of the events that occurred before, during and after that tragic day.”
